Postural R/Evolution Tour

2024 Tour -- John Friend & Desi Springer

In the yoga world, it is time for a r/evolution in postural alignment.

In the world of physical therapy, it is time for a r/evolution in biomechanics.

In our everyday life, it is a time for a r/evolution in functional movement, even in the way that we stand, sit, and walk.

Biomechanically, instead of seeing the body as a solid, compressive structure which needs to be aligned vertically with the main parts of the body stacked on top of each other in order to reduce the shearing forces of gravity, the Bowspring views the physical body as an integrated system with the mind and emotions that has its optimal health through wavy, fluid connective tissue (muscle and fascia), aligned to the sacred geometry and harmony that is universal to all mind-bodies.

Straight, static, upright lines for posture is old school. In today’s yoga, students are encouraged to stretch in ways that feel safe and good in their comfort zone. At the same time, the most successful and most celebrated poses are the ones in which deep flexibility is most highly valued. The most flexible students, who exhibit the greatest range of motion in their yoga poses on Instagram, are esteemed as the best and most advanced in yoga.

As a r/evolution to the postmodern yoga world, the Bowspring method is a new paradigm, which sees that our common posture and ways of unconsciously moving through our daily lives are actually reflecting unhealthy habits, often leading to chronic aches, pain, and joint degeneration. Instead of encouraging students to align in ways that are comfortable and reinforcing their usual, default posture, which is toward a flat spine or rounded C-curve, the Bowspring method teaches students to consciously align to the naturally wavy, dynamically balanced sacred geometry of the human body. Instead of emphasizing positions of deep flexibility, the Bowspring focuses on balanced forms, in which one part or one side of the body is not overworking or overstretching. There is a universal wavy position for each person’s unique body, in which all parts of the body are uniformly engaged and extending simultaneously, leading to the highest health and an expansion of embodied consciousness.
